RPM problem for Fedora 8.

I tried to upgrade the ImageMagick rpms today on my fully up-to-date F8 machine at work. I received many dependency issues all pointint to the lack of
----- libMagick.so.10
----- libWand.so.10

ImageMagick-6.4.1-1.i386.rpm and ImageMagick-6.4.1-1.x86_64.rpm as I have the earlier versions of both installed on my present system.

I had downloaded both

Code: Select all

rpm -Uvh --test ImageMagick-6.4.1-1.*
error: Failed dependencies:

If I remove the programs causing dependency issues, including koffice I cannot re-install them later, again due to the missing libs indicated above.

To install just ImageMagick, I had to remove:
Labplot
drawtiming
inkscape
k3d
octave-forge
pstoedit
xine
imagemagic-perl
a2ps
autotrace
dvdrip
kipi-plugins
koffice and related rpms
ogmrip
subtitleripper
transcode
vips
vips-tools
xine-lib-extras

As I couldn'tget these to install with the rpms that I downloaded, I had no choice to remove ImageMagick-6.4.1-1.i386.rpm and ImageMagick-6.4.1-1.x86_64.rpm and install the Fedora versions of ImageMagick.

One solution is to install ImageMagick from source in /usr/local:

tar xvfz ImageMagick-6.4.1-1.tar.gz
cd ImageMagick-6.4.1
./configure
make
make install

Trying this. I got a number of errors when I ran ./configure. I have not had time to figure out what is going on with the configure file yet. Probably missing header or devel packages that are required to compile ImageMagick.

I started this thread to point out that there was a problem with the provided rpm file for Fedora 8 which needs to be fixed.
