Some people want the offset information. Others don't. If the default is to save it, it's easy to prevent (+repage or -strip) and it's also easy to remove from the PNG later. If the default is not to save it, it is impossible to recover for those people who need it. I'm sorry if you don't like this answer, but it is what it is.
