Build 6.6.4.9 doesn't run on W2K - not a win32 application

I've just d/l'd and installed ImageMagick-6.6.4-9-Q16-windows-static.exe on my XP box, works fine. D/l'd and installed the same on my W2K-SP4 box. The install completes with no reported errors, but running the desktop icon or any of the *.exe's explicitly throws an error message

The Imagemagick download page helpfully suggests installing the Visual C++ 2010 Redistributable Package (x86) package if there are any problems. This, too turns out to fail with the same "not a Win32 application" error.

The box scans clean for viruses, other applications load and run as usual. Other freeware can be installed with no problems, no events logged to indicate a problem. Rebooting / reinstalling makes no difference.

Perhaps there is an incompatibility with Visual Studio 2010 and Win2K. Our testing is under Windows XP and Windows 7. We do not have access to a Win2K box.

Yes, that does appear likely - have the developers checked that VS 2010 still supports W2K?

So it's lucky I tried it then! :) As the documntation says
"ImageMagick runs on all recent Windows releases except Windows 95 / 98. We recommend its use on an NT-based version of Windows (NT4, 2000, 2003, XP, or Vista). Starting with ImageMagick 5.5.7, older versions such as Windows 95 / 98 are not supported anymore."

Maybe that needs to be amended to remove W2K from the list of usable systems, too?

Well it does run on Win2K, apparently you must compile ImageMagick yourself. We'll investigate further. We just need to locate a Win2K server.

If you have release candidates, I can try them out. I don't have VS 2010 here so I can't do any building but I'm willing to spend some time testing them for you.

We just tested under Windows 2008 and the current ImageMagick release works without complaint. We're still looking for a Win2K server.
